Sorry - didn't mean for that last entry to appear twice, it gave me an error and so I did it again, I guess it took the first time! New entry - "Thanks for the memories" by Bob Hope. Beet Bob never imagined the AZD version: "Thanks for the memories, of waking up at 4 to frat men at the door, of pillow fights and sleepless nights that never were a bore, we thank you, Alpha Xi." Xi Love, the NC girlies

The AZD sisters of the (ahem) former Zeta Rho chapter at NCState have compiled the following list of very important songs that we hope will both reflect on Monica's fun past, the great friend she's always been, and how bright her future is. Love, Krissy Devitt, aka Krismas or Devitt; Jane Whisler, aka Paigey, Janey Beth or Sears; Lu Slater, aka Lulu my Lulu; Karen Norton, aka K, Kay Mayrie or the Instigator; and Stacy Harrell, formerly Long

Feel free to re-organize this list as a good flow would suggest; these are not in any particular order other than a stream of consciousness after over indulging on chocloate covered peanuts and french fries. 1. The Perfect Country Western Song - it wouldn't be a decent celebration if we didn't say something about momma, trucks, trains, prison, or getting drunk at Papa GI Joes on a Friday night. 2. Amy (Pure Prarie League) - we must insist that Monica sing this on her wedding day at the top of her lungs, because that is the only way any of us will ever recognize it. 3. Friend of the Devil (Grateful Dead version) - Dedicated to Marie Francois for teaching us all who Jerry Garcia was and that Friend of the Devil was not a Bruce Frye original. 4. Brown Eyed Girl - The ultimate dance with your girlfriends song. Anthony - step aside, for this one she's all ours, cuz It's Ladies Night at the Lockup Lounge!! 5. Headlights - This IS a Bruce Frye original. Lyrics by Gary Parker, that is important to note. Tape of this song is to be provided by Karen Norton. Dedicated to Monica feeling Anthony's warm embrace, late at night (and not alone). 6. Glad Your Gone - Here lies another Bruce Frye original. Karen should be passing this along, too. Noone could be gladder we're gone than the Rooster himself. But the real message in this song is from Monica to all former boyz...glad you're gone cuz the real deal is now here to roost! 7. Forever and Ever Amen (Randy Travis - here you go, Krissy) - The meaning in this song is twofold; when Randy says, "I'm gonna love you forever, forever and ever amen," we know that he was talking about a couple and this will hold true for Monica and Anthony. But it will also be true for all of her best girlfriends. 8. Dirty Dancing - Someone told me that Monica actually danced around the sorority house to this theme song from Dirty Dancing - was it called "Time of your life"? I wouldn't mind having that on video. 9. I'll always love you (Dolly Parton version) - well, this is just a beautiful song, isn't it Monica? 10. Lukenbach Texas - (did we spell that right?) - memories of nights out with the girls, lookin' for ther boys. Ahhh, the good old days when country wasn't cool. 11. Wicked Game (Chris Iasaak) - Another Monica favorite - share with everyone your vision with this song, Mon. 12. The Chair - just because George Strait is the coolest country singer that ever lived. Anthony's got that chair now, so step aside George. 13. He Stopped Loving her Today (George Jones) - A trip down memory lane would be incomplete without this song. Sigh. Our wish is that Anthony always love you as much as the woman in this song is loved. 14. Lydia - or New York in June - either of these Ethel Merman classics. Noone can hold a candle to Monica's Ethel impression. I had a dream, Lydia.... 15. We are family (Sister Sledge) - so predictable, but equally sentimental and important. There is no way anyone could imagine the extension of immediate family that we women are to each other. God blessed me with more sisters than my mother ever dreamed of having! 16. Unbelieveable (UTO/UFO, who was that band?) - because Monica is soooo unbelievable (and it is still unbelievable that Barry's actually had PENNY draft night) 17. Love Shack (B-52s) - To the future newleyweds and building their own loittle love shack....Even without Norton standing on the table singing it, it deserves to be heard. And here's hoping Anthony's "Chrysler" is as big as a whale! 18. American Pie - OK, this one's more for Jane than Ica, but it's a sorority favorite. 19. Free (Dan Fogelberg) - a hard to find, but worth the look oldie but goodie. This is a jam out song that reminds me of Monica dancing so hard, you'd think she could break her ankle. By the way, kiss that FREEdom g'bye, dancin' girl. :) 20. The End of the World as We Know it (REM) - If this gets played and every single person does not yell LEONORD BERNSTEIN...then it's the end of the world as we know it. Birthday party, cheesecake, jellybean, BOOM! 21. Straight Up (Paula Abdul)- Gooo Greek Week!! Thoughts of the now defunct Shooters; and damnit, we should've beat those ADPis - as quoted by Dani Hershberger. 22. Friends in Low Places (Garth Brooks) - As evidenced by the comments thus far, it doesn't get much lower. Monica and Anthony - always remember your friends in low places, we'll be down here. 23. Guitars and Cadillacs (Dwight Yokam?) - and Hillbilly music! yeeeha 24. Come Hell or High Water - We'll be here waiting for you. 25. Paradise by the Dashboard Lights (Meatloaf, who else?) - We'd like to not just dedicate this song to Monica and fond memories, but to every girl who ever danced in front of the mirror singing into a pickle. 26. Pirate at 40 (Jimmy Buffett) - feel free to sprinkle in Buffett anywhere there is a lull in the CD or a need for more happy mindless music. 27. Boat Drinks (Jimmy Buffet) - is my personal favorite Buffett tune - remembering the Rock Boat cruise! Ice on the tummy, yummy. 28. These boots were made for walking (Nancy Sinatra) - my introduction to Monica was her solo version of this song on top of a table at the Golden Corral at my first AZD sisters meeting ever. I almost left. Good thing she stopped singing and I decided to stay, smartest thing I ever did. That's all for now, but we're just getting going. :) Michael - I know you are the compiler, see me with any questions on any of the above, I'm happy to help you dig any of this up. -Stacy

I think you have to put "Someone Left a Cake Out in the Rain." When Monica was little (and I hear from her NC friends as a grown up too) she made up her own words to songs. That's what she did with this one, and then a few years after it was a hit we heard it on the radio in the car, and she was indignant that they had changed the words, and insisted that her made up version was the real one! Hi Mon...I suggest "Wonderful Tonite" by Eric Clapton. As you might recall that was the song I sang to "my Bride" on our wedding day!!!...I think it's a delightful song of how the little things that happened between a man and a woman can be so subtly touch one's heart...(OK, is that to mushy???...I just wanted to share with Tony the softer side of a man...LOL) - Craig Tassone

My suggestion for a song for Monica's wedding is "You are so Beautiful" by Joe Crocker. In my opinion it's a dynamite song, and was the one we elected for my dance with our daughter, Susan, on the occasion of her wedding. By the way, we hope to attend the wedding in February. Although we need no other incentives for traveling to Chicago, our son, Tom, with his wife and three kids, lives in Glenview these days. Our best to you and especially the happy couple. From Mary Lou Malzone. I have been thinking of songs that remind me of your family and the one that comes to mind is your Dad singing Danny Boy on St. Paddy's Day. When we all were young in the Newman Club at GWU, we sang all the time so there are many songs but not really dancing music -- more drinking songs, i.e., Whippenpoof Song, Harrigan, Red Sails in the Sunset, etc.

Heard "Leroy Brown" at Stacy's wedding this past weekend, and decided we need that on the CD for sure. Very danceable and groovy :) ... Monica & Anthony

The song CD sounds great. Our wedding song was "My Baby Just Cares For Me," performed by the late Nina Simone. It would hurt our ears to listen to that gem at the wedding. Let us know if we can help at all with planning. Best, Howie and Rachel Schaffer

from Mary-Lynne Francois-- "If I Should Fall Behind", Bruce Springsteen (of course), from Lucky Town CD (An under-appreciated classic.) After close to 19 years of marriage, I can say this song, about a couple about to be married, sums up an incredibly important fact about marriage--you may not be in step with each other 100% of the time, but the important thing is to wait for each other. As Bruce says "But I'll wait for you/And if I should fall behind/Wait for me."

"Ta" by Imants Kalnins -- it's a romantic Latvian song that Monica will remember well - Randy Stieghorst

I think you should play something from Suzanne Vega's first album - although I also like Michael's suggestion "6 minutes Dougie Fresh Your On". Whatever happened to that giant Suzanne Vega poster you had Monica? - Susan Francois

First Dance: "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney Why? Because Paul McCartney is Anthony's favorite singer and the words are really beautiful :) - from Monica, the bride-to-be

I think you should play something by Dougie Fresh and the Get Fresh crew, to celebrate the High School years in DC! Michael Francois

Hey Guys, Howza bout "In My Life"? The Beatles version-definitely. Do not, I repeat, do not tempt yourselves into selecting the William Shattner version unless you want the crowd to disperse quickly. Another good choice would be anything from Tom Waits, especially from the 70's. See you soon. John Savely

Dear Monica + Anthony, I just found your webpage by searching some pictures from Zipolite/Mecixo. I saw the webpage www.francois.org/michaeli.htlm , then I clicked on www.francois.org where I found the link to your homepage.(Hope that I am not boring you to death with that story ;o] ) What I really want to say is: I(unknown)wish you a beautiful marriage and all the best!!! In this connection(Zipolite/your Music idea) my very favorite song for both of you is from a German artist called Xavier Naidoo: "Ich kenne nichts, was so schön ist wie Du"(=> translated:"I do not know anything which is as beautiful as you") Have a good time! Best regards from the South of Germany Axel pirfte@web.de

Kenny Rogers - "Through the Years" for the dance with the groom and his mother...

16 Dec 2003
08:21:41

"Too Lost in You" by the Sugababes (either off of their "Three" album or the Love Actually soundtrack). I nominate this song just because its a great love song and I hope Monica and Anthony stay "lost in each other" for a lifetime. Love, Maria Dozeman

How about “Roll out the barrel” At my wedding, I can remember my oldest friend (Larry Bragg) grabbing my new wife away from me and dancing the Polka around the dance floor. The scene really kicked the party in gear. While I do not recommend it for your first dance, I would guess that at least 95% of the attendees will know all of the words. Robbie and Siriwan Schmelzer (cuz)

"We are Family" is a song on Anthony's side of the family as well as with Monica's sorority sisters. So it will have double meaning...
